Born on her family’s ranch in Eastern Oregon, Bekkie Bowerman has been on and around horses her entire life. Growing up she was involved in rodeo, 4-h and various horse showing events. Through college her focus was on roping and goat tying, but gravitated towards barrel racing after receiving a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from West Texas A&M. Bekkie was hired as a Special Education teacher in East Texas, but continued owning horses and competing. While in Texas she received an opportunity at a large cutting facility to train “aged-out” cutting horses to run barrels, and found not only success but also a style and philosophy that shaped what has become her training method. In 2015 Bekkie returned to her home state of Oregon, teaching school again after receiving her Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from West Texas A&M. She had begun giving some lessons and riding an outside horse or two. As the requests grew she resigned from her teaching job, and built a horse based business named after her family’s ranch, The Lightning B.
Just a few short years later, Lightning B Equine has relocated to a beautiful training facility in Gooding, Idaho and now offers a variety of equine based services. Lightning B Equine strives to build calm, confident and consistent horses through training, wellness and nutrition.
